Wifi Corner Launch
Soo last Saturday (05/02/2011) was the launch of our fabulous Wifi Corner! It was all very exciting as it was our first chance for YAAC to really gain publicity and show others who we are and what we do. The launch took place in the Arnolfini Cafe (obviously - this is where the Wifi Corner is actually placed) which, as usual, was a very busy and vibrant place in the early hours of the Saturday evening. 3 YAAC members spoke a little about what we do and about our Wifi Corner, which was made up of dental floss, paper bags, gold leaf, felt, and some very lovely looking fairy lights placed in a "Z" shape across the ceiling. Oh, and you can't forget, our little mascot - the golden yack sitting on a shelf in a corner (but shhh I didn't tell you! It's "lost", remember?)
One particular thing to mention, is that part of our inspiration Jordan Mckenzie (live performer of "Drawing Breath" at the Arnolfini for Inbetween Time Festival - shown right) came along to our launch! He spent much of the time having a chat with Esther (one of our YAAC members) about what we do in YAAC.
Oh and did I tell you that we were all given a lot of free food? Courtesy of the Arnolfini cafe - might have been the best part... (I think they give out free food a lot...*hint hint*)
See yah! Cathryn
In between Time intriguing vinyl...
Helen Cole, the curator of the In between Time Festival, invited YAAC to position some sentences that she had selected around Arnolfini in intriguing places. The texts related to artworks and performances that had taken place at the preview or work within 'What's next for the body', the exhibition at Arnolfini.
As the festivals full name is 'The In between festival of Live Art and Intrigue', we were asked to think of unusual or thought provoking places to hide or reveal the words in Arnolfini's public spaces, allowing new meanings to be created...
There were 10 texts in total and here is some images of where we placed them -

hi, slYAACer here and get ready for a double dip as i am here to tell you about both today and the week before lasts session.
17th of jan!
firstly looking back to the 17th. the session was on monday at school because hannah had a very exciting exhibition up in Edinburgh during the week. unfortunately quite a few missed it because of exams but we cracked on non the less. we pretty much finalised our ideas for the wifi corner to: Anna and Connels big felt clock, katie's paper balloon fairy light covers and sentences cut out of felt. we were still unsure about some other ideas such as the city scape and dental floss stitched into paper bags. Charlie (the other one) and ella got to work on our brilliant flyers which im sure you've seen about.

Today was installation day. We have finally finished the wifi corner and it is looking grand. pictures to come! also me, Charlie (c-t) and ella took pictures of all our vinyl lettering, which has been blessing the walls of the arnolfini for a while now, because it is getting taken down in the run up for cosima's exhibition. http://www.arnolfini.org.uk/whatson/exhibitions/details/883
